film: 'Sans Soleil' (1983) by Chris Marker
A PORTRAIT OF MEMORIES
Considered to be one of the founding fathers of the film essay genre,
Chris Marker's 'Sans Soleil' ('Sunless') is an experimental exploration
of the nature of human memory.
Marker takes the viewer on a travel through both places and thoughts,
documenting personal, yet distant (slightly voyeuristic) encounters with multiple strangers
from a variety of countries; including Japan, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.
